PERFORMING ARTS ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES the SBCPAA/GOODRICH 2016-2017 C0NCERT SERIES DEC. 22

West Coast Pops Orchestra Christmas Carol
Sing-A-Long first of local shows

The Seal Beach Community Performing Arts Association is launching their 2016-2017 concert series, funded by the Premier Sponsorship of local Arts Patron, Harlene Goodrich, with a Christmas Concert at McGaugh School Auditorium, Thursday, December 22nd, 7:30 p.m., according to Esther Kenyon, Founder and Administrator. The concert will consist of favorite Christmas music selections and a Sing-A-Along of familiar carols and the “Hallelujah Chorus” from The Messiah oratorio. Led by a professional quartet of singers, this traditional Christmas chorus presentation should bring a rousing rendition from the audience. A feature of the concert, presented FREE to children and students, will be the opportunity for several children to conduct a live orchestra! Adult admission is $10 with tickets available online at sealbeacharts.org or for purchase at the door.

Esther comments, “Quoting Shakespeare’s famous line from The Tempest, ‘We are such stuff as dreams are made of…’, having a performing arts culture in Seal Beach has been my dream and the reason I founded SBCPAA in 2014. Beginning with ‘Sunday in the Park with Shakespeare’ with a performance of A Midsummer’s Night Dream in 2014 , followed by The Tempest in 2015 and this year with Othello, we have enjoyed tremendous support from the community in our endeavors. In 2014 we presented ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’, a charming children’s opera about the miracle of Christmas, and in 2015, our first concert series provided a variety of shows, The Golden Sands Women’s Barbershop Chorus, the West Coast Pops Orchestra and Opera -Kadabra, an opera singing magician!

“Next in our current concert series is in February, 2017, with a ‘Broadway meets Opera’ presentation by students from the acclaimed Music/Opera Department at CSULB, March will bring a Friends of Seal Beach Arts members only afternoon tea and music salon in a private home in Seal Beach, in April we are excited about presenting a Dixie Land Jazz Band with a dance exhibition, composed of retired professional musicians now residing in Leisure World, in the May/June period, I hope to present a dramatic play, featuring two well-known Hollywood celebrities (which will be a fund-raiser), and in August, Shakespeare returns to Eisenhower Park with a performance of the comedy ‘The Taming of the Shrew.’ Specific dates and venues for all performances will be announced as they are confirmed.

“Perhaps the best news of all is the generous Premier Sponsorship of Seal Beach resident, Harlene Goodrich. While we all recognize that arts and culture need to become an essential part of a community’s identity, spark community pride and create a more vibrant community in which people want to live, work and congregate, own a business and raise a family, presenting live arts performances is very expensive. In appreciation, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Harlene Goodrich for her superlative support to help make our concert series a reality; however, attendance and ticket purchase in our ‘Mayberry by the Sea’ is critical for the arts to survive here. So Citizens of Seal Beach, I ask you to please join us at these performances as we happily strive to fulfill our mission: Enriching lives, enriching our community through the performing arts!”
